Nakshatra, Rashi and Pada: what is the difference?
Rashi is the Moon sign: one of twelve 30-degree zodiac signs. Nakshatra is the lunar constellation: one of 27 smaller sections. Pada is one quarter of a Nakshatra. For traditional naming, the Pada is the deciding layer. Two children can have the same Rashi or Nakshatra but receive different naming sounds because their Moon is in different Padas.
